Hokies tie for eighth at Schooner Fall Classic

NORMAN, Okla. - The Virginia Tech women’s golf team tied for eighth out of the 16 teams in the Schooner Fall Classic, which concluded Sunday evening due to inclement weather at Belmar Golf Club (par 70, 6,182 yards). 

With rounds of 283, 284 and 278, Tech finished in the top 10 with a 5-over 845 to tie Houston (278-278-289). 

Valentine Delon led the Hokies at 1-under 209 (67-72-70), which tied for 17th. Delon closed the final round with an even-par 70. 

Emily Mathews tied for 21st with a three-day total of 210 (71-72-67). Mathews fired a 3-under 67 in the final round behind four birdies.

Oklahoma State won the tournament with an 18-under 822, and TCU followed close behind with an 11-under 829. 

Grace McGovern of TCU and Sydney Givens of Georgia tied for medalist honors at 9-under 201.

The Hokies are back in action, Oct. 17-19 at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational, hosted by the University of North Carolina at Finley Golf Club in Chapel Hill, N.C.
