How It Happened
The first half was a competitive, tight contest with both teams creating chances. The Tar Heels outshot the Hokies narrowly in the first half, five to three. Lauren Hargrove helped keep the Hokies in the game with four saves, including a diving, double save in the 66th minute.

Neither team was able to find a breakthrough until the 73rd minute. North Carolina found its first goal as Tech failed to clear the ball as a half-volley fell at the top of the box, hitting off the near post and in to give the Tar Heels the 1-0 advantage.
The Hokies responded quickly with the game-tying goal four minutes later. Lewin scored her second goal of the season after a hustle play from Natalie Mitchell put the ball right at her feet for a strike into the bottom corner.
