BUIES CREEK, N.C. – No. 24 Tech scored five on Sunday evening as they took down Campbell 5-1.
The Hokies had four different goal scorers get on the board in their fourth win of the season.
How It Happened
The game opened with Campbell finding an early goal in the 10th minute, one-timing it past Lauren Hargrove. It did not take long for the Hokies to respond as Eliana Salama found the tying goal in the 21st minute. Natalie Mitchell brought the ball from the midfield into the attacking third and laid it off to Salama at the top of the 18-yard box. Salama beat a defender to strike it at the near-post past the keeper.
Fifteen minutes later, Anna Weir created the chance to put Tech ahead of the Camels, forcing an own goal off the Campbell keeper. The first half finished 2-1 for the Hokies.
The momentum carried into the second half as Hannah Pachan netted her third goal of the season to put the Hokies up by two. Taylor Price crossed the ball to Pachan at the backpost, who attempted to cross it to Weir across the goal, which was deflected back to Pachan. On her second attempt, the keeper punched out Pachan’s header. Collecting the keeper’s deflection with her back to goal, Pachan turned and drove the ball into the bottom corner.
Less than ten minutes later, Pachan started the sequence that led to the Hokies’ fourth goal by applying pressure at the halfway line. This pressure led to Mitchell picking off a pass that landed at the feet of Weir, who drove forward and slotted Price through the defense. Price pulled the keeper to the right and finished into the bottom left corner for her third of the season.
Weir finished up the scoring for Tech in the 72nd minute. Ellie Robertson found Mitchell in the midfield, who split the defense to feed Weir at the top of the box. Weir rounded the keeper and slotted it home for the Hokies’ fifth and final goal.
