BLACKSBURG – Coming off a statement 1–0 victory over No. 3 Ohio State, the Virginia Tech Hokies carried their momentum into Sunday’s match, securing a 2–0 win against Canisius University to extend their win streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED

From the opening whistle, Tech dictated the pace. The Hokies fired off 14 shots in the first half while holding Canisius without a single attempt. Their pressure paid off in the 19th minute when Alex Perez sent a free kick into the back of the net to give Tech a 1–0 lead, his fourth career collegiate goal. Just five minutes later, Perez nearly created another scoring chance with a dangerous cross, though Marcano’s shot went just wide. Virginia Tech controlled possession for much of the half, keeping the Golden Griffins on their heels.

The Hokies picked up right where they left off in the second half. Joao Felicio opened with a strong shot before French international Ugo Bertelli doubled the lead in the 53rd minute, finishing off an assist from Perez for his first career goal. Canisius finally broke through with their first attempts of the match, including a shot on target in the 76th minute, but goalkeeper Sam Joseph was up to the task to preserve the clean sheet.
