BLACKSBURG – As the Hokies continue to hone in their skills during summer camp this month, there’s one position that promises to be as connected as ever: the tight ends room. Led by tight ends coach Brent Davis with assistance from associate coach Mike Moyseenko, the 2025 edition of the Hokies tight end room is working hard this summer as its five returners prepare for action later this month. In this week’s Position Preview, we analyze a room that is poised to reach new heights under offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery this season.
This year’s tight end room sports a lethal combo unique to many modern-day offenses: cohesiveness and experience. It is the only position on either side of the ball to not welcome a transfer addition this year, supporting the idea that Davis, Moyseenko and Montgomery believe in what the room can provide this season. Furthermore, of the five members within the position room, all are either redshirt juniors (Benji Gosnell, Harrison Saint Germain, Cole Reemsnyder) or redshirt sophomores (Ja’Ricous Hairston, Zeke Wimbush). The high level of experience each player brings back to Blacksburg this fall gives the offense a leg up in terms of preparation and execution come this season.
Gosnell served as the feature tight end in all 13 matchups in 2024, recording 32 receptions for 341 yards (10.7 yards per reception) alongside two touchdowns on the year. The North Carolina native was named to the Mackey Award watch list after serving as one of quarterback Kyron Drones’s favorite targets last season. His 32 receptions tied for second amongst all Virginia Tech offensive players. With Drones returning to Blacksburg alongside Gosnell, look for the pairing to excel once again throughout the 2025 campaign.
Gosnell’s work ethic is also a massive benefit for the Hokies. Of those who tallied a reception last fall, the 6-foot-5, 254-pound tight end was the only player to start all 13 games (including the Duke’s Mayo Bowl), demonstrating that the redshirt junior is willing and able to do the job for the Hokies. Additionally, his playmaking ability, demonstrated by his 25-yard touchdown against Miami and 20-yard score against Georgia Tech, will be a factor within the Montgomery offensive scheme.
Supporting Gosnell at the tight end position are a handful of skilled Hokies that promise to produce later this season. Redshirt junior Harrison Saint Germain returns to the fold after playing in all 13 games in 2024. His 6-foot-4, 249-pound frame promises to be a weapon Montgomery can utilize, along with Gosnell, not only as a pass catcher but also as a blocker.
Also returning as a redshirt junior is Cole Reemsnyder, who played early in the season against Vanderbilt and Old Dominion in 2024. He’s the tallest tight end listed in the room this fall, the Virginia product standing above the rest at 6-foot-6, 231 pounds.
Redshirt sophomores Ja’Ricous Hairston and Zeke Wimbush also return to the tight end room in 2025. Both featured in all 13 games last fall, the duo utilizing their individual talents in special teams roles in both conference and nonconference matchups.
While the Hokies gear up for the first game of the season against South Carolina later this month, fans can rest assured that Tech football is preparing for a standout season. Be sure to grab your tickets to see the Hokies in Lane Stadium later this fall!
