BLACKSBURG - Director of Track and Field and Cross Country, Ben Thomas, annouced the addition of Hannah Long to the 2025-2026 coaching staff in July of 2025. Long will assume the role of assistant coach for cross country and distance and will assist with program operations.
From August of 2022 through July of 2025, Long assisted with the Akron cross country and track & field programs as a distance coach. She assisted with mentoring athletes, managing workouts and formulating practice schedules for the program while assisting with the program's operations.
Long competed collegiately as a distance runner from 2015-2018 for Stanford before finishing her career at Akron from 2019-2022. She owns personal-bests on 20:11.6 in the cross country 6k, 4:26.88 in the 1500m and 4:50.45 in the mile.
Outside of athletics, Long has worked as a talent acquisition specialist for RoviSys from 2022 through 2025 where she worked with hiring managers to assist with recruitment and hiring/onboarding processes for various organizations.
Originally from Wildwood, Missouri, Long has a bachelor's in psychology from Stanford, a master's in business administration from Akron and a master's in supply chain management from Akron.
