HERAKLION, Greece – Neoklis Avdalas concluded the 2025 FIBA U20 EuroBasket in dominant fashion, posting a triple-double and leading Greece past Israel 92-82 in the fifth-place game on Sunday.

The 6-foot-9 signee recorded 14 points, 10 rebounds and 14 assists in the win, becoming the seventh player in tournament history to notch a triple-double, and the first to do so since 2019.

Hosted in Heraklion from July 12 to 20, the FIBA U20 EuroBasket featured 16 of Europe’s top national teams and some of the most promising young talents in international basketball. Avdalas, who entered the tournament as a headline name and Greece’s floor general, lived up to expectations and then some.

Over the seven-game stretch, Avdalas averaged:

  • 14 points (13th overall)
  • 8 assists (first overall)
  • 7.1 rebounds (11th overall)
  • 19.3 efficiency
  • 17.4 +/-

Avdalas’ vision and poise under pressure anchored the Greek squad through tightly-contested knockout games, including a strong showing in a close quarterfinal loss to eventual-semifinalist France. He produced 17 points, 10 assists and six rebounds in the narrow defeat.

Already earning back-to-back national honors in Greece as “Best Young Player to Watch” and “Most Improved Player,” Avdalas further cemented his status as one of Europe’s elite prospects. His all-around impact, high basketball IQ and ability to elevate teammates were on full display in Heraklion, providing Hokie fans a preview of what’s to come in Blacksburg.
