HERAKLION, Greece – Greece concluded group play at the FIBA U20 EuroBasket 2025 with a dominant 3-0 record, securing the top spot in Group B and advancing to the Round of 16 with plenty of momentum. The tournament, held from July 12-20 in Heraklion, Greece, features 16 national teams and Europe’s most elite under-20 basketball talent.

Neoklis Avdalas, a recent Virginia Tech signee and one of the tournament’s top prospects, has been instrumental in Greece’s early success. The 6-foot-9 playmaker averaged 9.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists across three games. His ability to dictate the tempo of the game, distribute the ball and defend multiple positions has made him the focal point of this deep and talented Greek squad.

Greece’s group results:

  • July 12 – Greece 77, Lithuania 65
  • July 13 – Greece 75, Czechia 68
  • July 14 – Greece 89, Romania 40

Following a rest day on July 15, Greece will face Finland in the Round of 16 on Wednesday, July 16 at 11 a.m. ET at the Nea Alkarnassos Arena in Heraklion. A win against Finland would place Greece in Thursday's quarterfinals against the winner of France vs. Belgium.

With Avdalas leading the charge, Greece heads into the knockout phase as a serious contender for gold. Having the home crowd and momentum on their side, Greece enters the next phase of the tournament with high expectations.

"It's the biggest motivation, it ignites the passion in all of us," Avdalas said about playing the tournament in his home country. "It will be unique for us to step on the court and feel the energy also from the fans. We'll give our all in order to succeed and to make our fans happy and our country proud.

"We aim high… We don't hide it. We want a medal. We are lucky to play in our country. It's not pressure for us. It’s an advantage and we have to take it and make the most out of it."
