CARY, N.C. – Donning red, white and blue for the second consecutive summer, Virginia Tech rising junior pitcher Brett Renfrow has been invited back to participate in the 2025 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp, consisting of a five-game Stars vs. Stripes showcase series running from June 29 to July 3 at three North Carolina ballparks.
Renfrow will reprise his pitching role with Team USA when 56 of the nation’s premier non-draft eligible collegiate players descend this month on the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. Last summer, the 6-foot-3 right-hander became the sixth Virginia Tech player who toured with the Collegiate National Team, following in the footsteps of Franklin Stubbs (1981), George Canale (1985), Trey McCoy (1986), Gavin Cross (2021) and Jack Hurley (2022).
Under the 2025 format, USA Baseball’s Stars vs Stripes series will determine the Collegiate National Team roster for the 45th USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Championship Series – a five-game tournament taking place from July 8 to July 13 in the Japanese cities of Hokkaido, Niigata and Tokyo. Among athletes who do not progress to the Collegiate National Team, remaining pool players will compete on July 4 at Atrium Health Ballpark in Kannapolis, North Carolina, against a select all-star team from the Appalachian League.
Renfrow’s run through the 2025 Stars vs. Stripes series will consist of five exhibition games as follows (schedule subject to change):

During the 2024 national training camp, Renfrow debuted on June 27 in Cary, tossing a one-two-three inning for Stripes that included strikeouts of infielders Dean Curley (Tennessee) and Marek Houston (Wake Forest). Honoring his selection to the Summer League Tour, he started on July 1 against the Appalachian League East Select team at Calfee Park in Pulaski, Virginia, dealing two scoreless, hitless innings for Team USA.
As a sophomore at Virginia Tech, Renfrow led the Hokies in strikeouts (84) and innings pitched (74.0) while making 15 starts, lowering his ERA from 4.92 as a freshman to 3.89 during the 2025 campaign. Prior to the start of the 2025 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship, the two-time All-ACC Third Team mention ranked among the top 100 pitchers nationally in strikeouts per nine innings (10.22), paving the way for the Virginia Tech pitching staff to achieve a new program record in single-season strikeouts (581).
Should Renfrow progress to the 2025 Collegiate National Team, the 45th USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Championship Series would consist of the following schedule (subject to change):
