Q: Why do you think it is important to give back to Virginia Tech Athletics?
MG: Virginia Tech is truly the best school ever. Students, alumni, fans, the community, and everyone involved with VT Athletics are a big part of what makes it so great and drive one of the most spirited universities in the country. Giving back to Athletics allows everyone to benefit from some of the most entertaining and fulfilling events you’ll ever attend.
Q: Why did you decide to attend Virginia Tech?
MG: I only applied to Virginia Tech and could not be more grateful for that decision. I instantly could tell after touring that this would be my home. Everyone was wearing VT merch and seemed super approachable, in addition to the beautiful campus, extensive alumni connections, and amazing academic opportunities.
Q: How has Virginia Tech Athletics impacted you?
MG: Virginia Tech Athletics has greatly impacted my college experience and shaped me as a person with all my experiences. As the HokieBird mascot, I was able to give back to the community by brightening countless people’s days, or even weeks, by simply taking a picture with them or high-fiving them on the street. I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything, and it really made me so proud to be a Hokie. I will forever be cherishing my time as the VT mascot and am honored to have so many memories from it.
Q: What is your favorite Virginia Tech sports memory?
MG: Running out of the tunnel for Enter Sandman!!
Q: Why would you encourage other Virginia Tech Recent Graduates to give?
MG: Every student and student-athlete deserve a great college experience. Reflecting on my years in athletics and as a new alumni, many of my amazing opportunities wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of those who gave. College is some of the best years of your life- it deserves to reach its fullest potential!
