Sam Tackett, Brett Renfrow represent Hokies on 2025 All-ACC baseball teams

Tackett led Virginia Tech with his placement onto the 2025 All-ACC Second Team while Renfrow earned his second consecutive All-ACC Third Team mention

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Showing out on both sides of the ball during the 2025 regular season, Virginia Tech baseball stars Sam Tackett and Brett Renfrow have garnered year-end, all-conference honors from the ACC, as announced during Monday’s postseason awards presentation.

Boasting his best collegiate season on the diamond, Tackett led Virginia Tech’s award class with his placement onto the 2025 All-ACC Second Team, extending the Hokies’ streak to five consecutive years with at least one all-conference outfielder. Behind Tackett, sophomore right-hand starting pitcher Brett Renfrow scored his second straight all-conference honor, landing on the All-ACC Third Team.

Tackett was one of the nation’s hottest hitters through the first two months of the 2025 season as the redshirt-senior flexed a .412 batting average through the end of March, hammering 10 home runs (one hit 500 feet) while sprinkling in several high-difficulty outfield catches. Coming out of Virginia Tech’s three-game road sweep at Wake Forest – during which his home run robbery of Matt Scannell made SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays on ESPN – he was named D1Baseball’s 2025 Midseason Breakout Star in addition to placing onto D1Baseball’s Midseason All-American First Team.

Despite his numbers cooling into late April and May, Tackett ended the regular season ranked among the top 10 ACC sluggers in home runs (14), batting .314 with 58 hits, 10 doubles, 42 runs, 44 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. Filling in occasionally at first base to bring the injury-ailing Hokies across the finish line, he led the squad in walks (35) and on-base percentage (429), while posting a .977 fielding percentage.

For the second straight season, Renfrow embraced the role as Virginia Tech’s series-opening starting pitcher, leading the Hokies in strikeouts (74) and innings pitched (68.2) through 14 outings. After pitching on the 2024 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, the 6-foot-3 right-hander toed a 3.41 ERA during his second season in Blacksburg, collecting three wins while cementing a .263 opposing batting average.

Renfrow was pivotal to Virginia Tech’s picking up of back-to-back, series-opening victories against two top-20 ranked opponents this season in Louisville (March 21) and Wake Forest (March 28) during late March. Against the Cardinals, Renfrow carried a shutout into the eighth inning – one week before he turned in six solid innings on the road against the Demon Deacons.

Equipped with Renfrow and Tackett, Virginia Tech will open its run at the 2025 ACC Baseball Championship (single elimination) on Tuesday, May 20, against Stanford. First pitch between the 12th-seeded Hokies and the 13th-seeded Cardinal is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina, airing live on ACC Network.
