TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Virginia Tech fell to Alabama, 4-3, in Game Three of the Tuscaloosa Regional on Saturday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium.
Kylie Aldridge hit her second home run of the weekend in the loss.
How It Happened: Alabama 4, Virginia Tech 3
The Hokies got off to a hot start and capitalized on a pair of leadoff walks to start the first inning. With the bases loaded, Bre Peck hit a blooper single to right field to make it 1-0 Hokies. An RBI single by Emily LeGette to left field drove in two more, but the safe call at the plate was overturned and held the Hokies to two runs in the first.
Alabama plated a run in the bottom of the second off a wild pitch from Emma Mazzarone, but a groundout to Rachel Castine held the Crimson Tide to just one run. It was not until the bottom of the third that Alabama struck again with a two-run blast to center field to make it a 3-2 game.
The Crimson Tide tacked on another off an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth, but the Hokies cut the deficit to one run again in the top of the fifth thanks to a solo shot by Kylie Aldridge. It marks her second home run of the weekend as the Hokies trailed 4-3 heading into the sixth.
Jordan Lynch led the top of the seventh off with a first-pitch single to right field, but Tech was unable to bring her in as the Hokies fell to the Crimson Tide, 4-3.
