BLACKSBURG - Behind a four-goal performance from Sophia Trahan and some clutch defensive plays, the Virginia Tech lacrosse team got back in the win column with a 12-11 victory over Coastal Carolina Wednesday afternoon on Thompson Field.

The result moves the squad to 8-7 (2-5) ahead of the final two ACC contests of the season.

Tech started the game on the front foot with Mia Pozzi scoring less than a minute into the first quarter and after Sophia Trahan added two scores, the Hokies led 3-1 at the media timeout. From there though, the Chanticleers found their footing and countered with a barrage of their own to close the gap. The Hokies led 5-4 after the opening 15 minutes of action.

From there, both teams made runs as the Chants took a brief lead in the second quarter before Lauren Render tallied to give Tech the lead back. After another tie, Marie Cacciabaudo scored to close the third quarter as Tech regained their advantage which they would not relinquish.

Emma Rowland, who scored for the first time as a Hokie last week vs. Clemson, once again found the net, this time scoring the game winner.

Pozzi finished the day with three points, five ground balls, six draws and two caused turnovers.

In goal, Aaliyah Jones stopped 10 shots, her fifth game this season with 10 or more saves.

Tech will play host to No. 11 Syracuse on Saturday, April 12 in a game that can be seen on ACC Network Extra.
