BLACKSBURG – Tech drops Sunday afternoon match to ACC opponent Clemson.
The doubles decision was a narrow one, with Courts No. 1 and 3 both heading to a tiebreaker. Clemson ultimately clinched on Court No. 3, 7-6 (8-6). Though Matt Harper and Alberto Orso fought back from being down 2-4 to make it 6-6, their match halted when Clemson clinched the point during the tiebreaker.
The Hokies didn’t go down without a fight in singles, three of which were taken to the third set. Ilyas Fahim was tied 2-2 in the third set after each of his first two sets ended in a tiebreaker.
Alberto Orso was close to victory on Court No. 4 when the match was clinched. He ended a game short, going 6-0, 2-6, 5-4.
The Tigers clinched the match with three singles victories, winning 4-0.
UP NEXT: The Hokies play in their final home match of the season on Sunday April 6, for Senior Day in Blacksburg at noon. The seniors will be honored at 11:30 a.m.
