CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Mia Pozzi and Lauren Render scored the game’s first two goals before the host Cavaliers tallied six consecutive goals to gain control of the game that they would not relinquish as the Hoos earned a 19-9 victory to close out the regular season.

Virginia Tech is 9-8 (3-6) heading into the postseason.

Render, the ACC’s Offensive Player of the Week once again led the Hokies with five goals, her fourth game this season with five or more and second in a row. With her tally, she eclipsed 50 goals for the season, becoming the tenth woman in program history to post 50 or more in a single season.

Sophia Trahan tallied twice and freshman Kamryn Henson also scored once in the game.

Virginia made six of their eight free position attempts, while the Hokies converted just once from the eight meter opportunity.

The Hokies did hold an advantage in ground balls and also committed fewer team turnovers.

The loss gives the Cavaliers one point in the Commonwealth Clash, presented by Smithfield. The score for the Commonwealth Clash currently is 11-6 in favor of Virginia. For more information, visit hokiesports.com/commonwealth-clash.
