Hokies conclude competition at Mountaineer Invitational

Tech turns focus to ACC Championship

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Virginia Tech men's golf team placed 13th at the Mountaineer Invitational, which concluded Tuesday at Pete Dye Golf Club (par 72, 7,308 yards).

The Hokies fired rounds of 306, 314 and 320 and were led individually by Gareth Steyn, who tied for 30th at 14-over 230 (73-78-79). Balthazar Duclos was one stroke behind at 15-over 231 (76-78-77) to tie for 33rd.

Fourth-ranked Oklahoma State cruised to the team title at even-par 864, 24 shots clear of runner-up Kentucky. Texas Tech, ranked 28th, was third at 898.

Eric Lee of Oklahoma State was the lone golfer in the 100-player field to finish in the red. He logged a 6-under 210 (67-72-71) to post an eight-stroke victory over Hudson Wilt of TCU.

Tech will now turn its focus to the ACC Men's Golf Championship, April 24-28, at Olde Stone Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ky.
