CHARLOTTE – Virginia Tech’s Lauren Render and Aaliyah Jones have been named ACC Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week the conference office announced Tuesday. For the program, this marks the first time that the Hokies have had an honoree on both sides of the ball in the same week and the first weekly award winner since 2023.
Render, the Hokies’ leading scorer poured in seven goals Saturday as the Hokies defeated the Orange for their first ranked victory of the season. The junior attacker owns 47 goals on the season, one of the top tallies in the ACC. She has six hat tricks in 2025, including three in league play. She ranks 27th nationally in goals scored.
Jones, who leads the ACC in saves per game, recorded two games with 10 or more last week as she helped the Hokies secure consecutive victories over Coastal Carolina and then-No. 11 Syracuse. On the season she owns seven games with a double digit save tally and a save percentage north of 46%. She ranks fifth nationally in saves.
Tech is on the road at No. 7 Virginia Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. on ACC Network in a Commonwealth Clash matchup with ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship seeding implications. The Hokies currently occupy the eight seed but can move up to the seven seed with a victory.
The Hokies have not defeated consecutive ranked teams since March of 2018 and the last time that Tech beat a top 10 opponent was that same season in February.
