BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech (13-11, 2-10 ACC) earns the No. 15 seed in the ACC Women’s Championship in Cary, N.C., setting up a match-up with 10th-seeded Miami on Wednesday, April 16 at 12:30 p.m.
The Hokies look to find their momentum again after a 4-0 loss to Virginia on Thursday, April 10 following a two-win weekend up north at Syracuse and Boston College.
At the time of the bracket announcement, Virginia Tech sits at No. 60 nationally, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Miami sits at No. 55, as they finished the regular season with a 9-12, 4-8 ACC record.
The Canes have picked up wins over No. 45 Syracuse, No. 23 Notre Dame, Louisville, and No. 36 Wake Forest throughout the season in conference play. The wins over Notre Dame, Louisville, and Wake Forest were all sweeps, while they took Syracuse to the wire with a 4-3 win.
In singles, Miami is led by the No. 15-ranked player in the country, Alexa Noel. Noel is undefeated this season, including seven ranked wins. On the doubles side, Noel and Maria Paula Vargas are undefeated on the season, with five wins while Raquel Gonzalez and Xinyi Nong are 8-3 this year.
Miami fell in its final two matches of the regular season to UNC and Duke, 4-0 and 4-1 respectively.
The Hokies and Canes have yet to play each other this season.
