GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Virginia Tech women's golf team won the team title at the Ironwood Invitational, clinching its second victory of the season Tuesday afternoon. The tournament was being contested at Ironwood Golf and Country Club (par 72, 6,481 yards).
The Hokies set a program record for most team titles in a season (two) and claimed their fourth title (third outright) in school history.
Behind three of top-10 showings by Morgan Ketchum, Valentine Delon and Katherine Lemke, the Hokies carded an 11-over 875 (294-289-292). East Carolina, the tournament host, overtook Tech early in Tuesday's final round, but the Hokies responded with a barrage of birdies.
Ketchum finished runner-up in the individual standings at 3-under 213 (72-70-71), while Delon placed third at 1-under 215 (71-74-70). Lemke tied for ninth, posting a top-10 for the first time this season at 6-over 222 (73-75-74).
ECU placed second in the team standings at 17-over 881, followed by NC State, ranked No. 41 nationally, at 34-over 898.
NC State's Marie Madsen carded a 6-under 210 (70-71-69) to claim medalist honors by three shots over Ketchum.
Tech is next in action at the ACC Championship, April 16-19, at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
