AWENDAW, S.C. – The Virginia Tech men's golf team secured a 13th-place finish at The Hootie at Bulls Bay, which concluded Tuesday at Bulls Bay Golf Club (par 72, 7,282 yards). The Hokies posted a three-round total of even-par 864 (287-293-284).
Redshirt junior Gareth Steyn led the Hokies individually, tying for 18th place with a 5-under 211 (68-71-72). He tied for first among the tournament field with 41 pars.
Purdue, ranked No. 39 in the country, and South Carolina, ranked No. 18 in the country, tied for first at 30-under 834. The Boilermakers won the team title in a playoff. No. 16-ranked Kieron Van Wyk from College of Charleston clinched first place individually with a three-round total of 14-under 202 (69-69-64).
The Hokies will return to action April 5-6 at the Testudo Cup in Ijamsville, Md.
