BLACKSBURG – The Hokies fall in their first match at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in a month.
No. 54 Virginia Tech hosted No. 28 Stanford for the first time in ACC play, falling 4-2 after a battle on Friday afternoon.
For the Hokies, the afternoon was highlighted by a win from freshman Mila Mulready. Mulready has been a mainstay on the back end of the lineup, playing primarily on Court 6. She picked up her fourth straight win and fifth in the Hokies’ last six matches. Mulready defeated Morgan Shaffer of Stanford 6-1, 6-4.
Semra Aksu grabbed the other point for the Hokies. She won her first set 6-4 and was up 4-3 in the second before her opponent retired, giving Aksu the win.
Özlem Uslu was battling in the third set when the match was called.
In doubles, Stanford grabbed the point but Arina Gamretkaia and Tara Gorinsek picked up another win on Court 2 with a 6-4 win over Valencia Xu and Caroline Driscoll.
