Sunday’s matchup will mark the fifth time the two schools have met and the first since 2005. The series is tied at 2-2, with the Lady Raiders winning the first two matchups (1994, 2001) and the Hokies winning the last two (2004, 2005).
Texas Tech is led by head coach Krista Gerlich, who is in her fifth season in Lubbock. An alum, Gerlich has also been the head coach at West Texas A&M and UT Arlington, and is in her 19th overall season as a head coach, owning a 365-229 (.614) record.
On the court, the Lady Raiders’ success has been behind juniors Bailey Maupin and Jasmine Shavers. The pair were All-Big 12 honorable mention for the second season in a row. Maupin averages 13.4 points per game while Shavers averages a team-best 14.7 points per game.
Texas Tech’s strength is its ability to alter shots at the rim, ranking 36th overall nationally in blocks per game (4.4), and cause havoc defensively, ranking 55th in turnovers forced (18.8).
