Annapolis, Md. – Tech shuts out Navy 7-0 in their second match of the weekend.
The Hokies only dropped a total of two sets across the entire match.
On Court 1, Charlotte Cartledge and Özlem Uslu picked up their sixth win of the season with a 6-1 victory over Emily Tannenbaum and Emma Gu.
With a switch in partners on Courts 2 and 3, Arina Gamretkaia and Tara Gorinsek paired up on Court 2, while Semra Aksu and Linda Ziets-Segura were on Court 3. Gamretkaia and Gorinsek won 7-5 over Sylvia Eklund and Anna Jordaan, while Aksu and Ziets-Segura notched a 7-6(3) over Parvathi Shanker and Grace Li.
On Court 5, Laima Frosch double-bageled (6-0, 6-0) her opponent to kick off the Hokies in singles. Aksu picked up a win on Court 3, sweeping Kate Lee 6-4, 6-2.
Gamretkaia and Gorinsek added to the Hokies’ advantage with 6-3, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-2 wins, respectively.
Uslu dropped the first set 6-1 but came back to win the second 6-3. The third set was played to a ten-point tiebreak as Tech already clinched the match. Uslu won the tiebreak 10-7 to win the match.
Cartledge picked up a first-set win 6-1 before dropping the second 7-5. She also won her ten-point tiebreak 10-8 to win the match.
