Tech remains unbeaten at home after win over JMU

Mila Mulready and Arina Gamretkaia pick up their first wins in Virginia Tech uniforms.

BLACKSBURG – The Hokies add to their winning streak with a 6-1 win over in-state rival James Madison.

Tech once again took hold of the doubles point as Charlotte Cartledge and Özlem Uslu continue to prove why they are nationally ranked. The 62nd-ranked doubles pair in the country found their fourth-straight win with a 6-4 win over James Madison’s Sophie Williams and Ines Oliveira.

On Court 2, Semra Aksu and Tara Gorinsek clinched the doubles point as they defeated Elena Kravela and Corinna Rietmann 6-4.

 

 

In singles, Laima Frosch got Tech started with a win over Hope Moulin of JMU 6-2, 6-1. Gorinsek also continued her fine form with a sweep of JMU’s Oliveira 6-2, 6-3. Uslu also keeps proving why she is the 21st-ranked player in the country with a 6-3, 6-4 win on Court 1 to clinch the match.

Over on Court 6, Mila Mulready picked up her first singles win in a Virginia Tech uniform, giving the Hokies a 5-1 advantage after she defeated Mia Saveljic 7-6(4), 6-2. Arina Gamretkaia added to the fun as she, too, picked up her first win as a Hokie, grinding out a 4-6, 6-0, 7-6(6) three-setter over Williams of JMU.
