BLACKSBURG – The Hokies had a day of celebration on Valentine’s Day with a home victory against Tulane, 4-3.
Four Hokie singles wins gave Tech the advantage Friday night at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. Duo Ilyas Fahim and Scott Sculley were victorious in doubles, 7-5. Tech ended up dropping the doubles point, but worked their way back to success in singles.
Alberto Orso evened the score with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Eyal Shumilov quickly added on, defeating his opponent in similar fashion, by a score of 6-3, 6-2.
The Hokies kept it rolling with a Court No. 2 triumph by Ilyas Fahim, 7-5, 6-1. After a loss on Court No. 1 made things close, the Hokies sealed the deal on the victory with a three-set win by Patrik Jurina, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Tech has a bye week upcoming, but return to action on Feb. 28 as they take on North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
