BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech lacrosse team got out to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter and would not look back as the team earned their first home win of the season, defeating Mercer 11-7 Saturday afternoon from the Beamer-Lawson Indoor Practice Facility.
Maura O'Malley, Molly Re and Lauren Render each scored twice to lead the attack, as eight different Hokies were able to find the net.
In the circle Molly Flanagan coralled three draws and four of her teammates each had two as well, helping the Hokies control possession.
Tech held an advantage in the draw circle (12-10) and were buoyed by goalie Aaliyah Jones who made nine saves in the game.
The Hokies will travel to Elon on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 5 p.m.
