Tech plays their cards right against Marshall

Four Hokies swept their opponents away.

BLACKSBURG – The Hokies win 5-2 on Valentine’s Day over the Marshall Thundering Herd.

The doubles pairs on Courts 2 and 3 were victorious for Tech, as they claimed yet another doubles point. On Court 2, Arina Gamretkaia and Tara Gorinsek found a 6-3 victory while Semra Aksu and Linda Ziets-Segura clinched the point for the Hokies with a 6-4 win on Court 3.

In singles, Özlem Uslu, Gorinsek, Aksu, and Gamretkaia all found sweeps over their opponents. Uslu won her first set 6-2, but her opponent, Johanna Strom retired before the start of the second set. Gorinsek defeated Emma Vanderheyden 6-2, 6-1 on Court 2.

With a 3-0 advantage in the match, Aksu rounded off Tech’s win as she swept Arina Mokrynskaya 6-4, 6-3. Gamretkaia added to the final score with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Sophia Hurrion on Court 4.

Laima Frosch and Mila Mulready both played to three sets but fell in the ten-point tiebreak.
