Virginia Tech women’s soccer has sighed Syri Davis to the 2025 recruiting class. Davis, a midfielder from Wake Forest, N.C., was crowned the 2024 USL W League National Champion with the U23 USL Pre-Professional W Team. She was also named a U17 Second Team Mid-Atlantic All-Conference honoree.
“We are extremely excited to add Syri to our team and for her to be part of our program at Virginia Tech,” head coach Chugger Adair said. “She is a wonderful player, a wonderful person, has a very high soccer IQ and good technical ability that will fit in very well with our team and our program. We see her coming in, being able to compete, improving our possession in the midfield and our ability to transition and connect all lines within the playing field.”
Why did you choose Virginia Tech? I chose Tech because of the very home-like feel I get from the campus, players and staff. I also feel like Tech will push me personally, academically and athletically to be the best version of myself.
What was your favorite thing about your visit? My favorite thing about the visit was being able to connect on a personal level with the players and see what their daily lives were like. Being able to have conversations with and learn from some of the older players made me even more excited.
What excites you the most about being part of Virginia Tech women’s soccer? I love the hard-working mentality that the players bring to every aspect of their lives. I also loved how personable the coaches are but are also able to push the players every time.
What are some strengths of yours on the soccer field? My soccer strengths are my passing ability, soccer IQ, ability to read and escape pressure, communication skills and the use of my body.
Who is your favorite pro player and why? My favorite pro player is Luka Modric. I have been a Real Madrid fan since birth and watching them in the early stages of my life led me to pay attention to Luka Modric. When I was younger, I played the 10. I loved Modric’s creative ability and his ability to read the game. I have also become a Croatian fan because of him, and I now support many the players on that team. I thought that out of the dream three midfielders (Toni Kroos, Casemiro, Luka Modric), Modric was the one who was able to create game-winning plays with his creativity and high-level technical abilities. He was also one of the only people to win the Ballon d’Or during the era when Messi and Ronaldo were the only ones winning it.
What do you plan on majoring in? I think I want to major in Sports Psychology because the mental side of the game has been something I’ve always struggled with and want to share my experience with people who also need help with a side of the game that isn’t widely talked about nor focused on. I am also considering majoring in Sports and Media Analytics. I love sports and watch a lot of sports on TV, such as soccer, football, tennis, basketball, track and field, gymnastics and F1. I feel I could communicate my knowledge of sports stats and tactics with a broad audience.
What is one thing you want Virginia Tech fans to know about you? One day I will be one of the lead sports journalists on First Take/ Get Up/CBS Sports. My career inspirations are Stephen A. Smith and Kate Abdo. Hopefully, I will one day be a Sports TV Personality for the Olympics.
