BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech football is officially set with its 12-game slate for the 2025 season. The ACC announced the full conference schedule on Monday evening, and the Hokies can begin preparations for their season opener in Atlanta, Georgia at the Aflac Kickoff.
Head coach Brent Pry enters the upcoming campaign with significant updates to his staff, recently announcing Sam Siefkes as his new defensive coordinator. Following the promotion of Jarrett Ferguson to Assistant Athletic Director of Football Strength and Conditioning and the addition of offensive line coach Matt Moore, Tech will have plenty of opportunities to install their new schemes. Their first test will come against the nationally ranked South Carolina Gamecocks in a neutral site contest.
National media and Hokie fans alike will discover numerous storylines ahead of the season-opening matchup. The contest offers a quality test for the Hokies’ young roster that added 19 signees on National Signing Day and welcomes 18 new transfers from the portal. Pry and company will look to start the season off on the right note by picking up a significant win and expanding the program’s 55.6 winning percentage in the state of Georgia.
Following the trip south, the Hokies will settle down in Blacksburg for three straight home games. Pry’s fourth year at the helm includes welcoming the likes of Vanderbilt (Saturday, Sept. 6), Old Dominion (Saturday, Sept. 13) and Wofford (Saturday, Sept. 20) to Lane Stadium for weeks 2-4. Entering the season with multiple contributors in their first or second year playing at the college level, multiple home games early in the year can be a huge boost for their confidence. The home field advantage at Lane Stadium can’t be underestimated because of the electric atmosphere Hokie Nation creates on gameday. After facing two SEC opponents to open the year and a pair of opponents from their nonconference slate in Pry’s inaugural season, the Hokies will start ACC play on the road against the Wolfpack. Tech’s trip to Carter-Finely Stadium in late September to battle NC State will be its first matchup in Raleigh, North Carolina since 2022. Pry will face the program for the third time in four seasons in another unique road contest with the conference opener after previously playing on Thursday night in Raleigh.
The following month, Tech will open October the same way it did September with another home game. This contest involves playing host to Wake Forest and its new head coach, Jake Dickert. While the Hokies hold the most recent victory in the series history, this contest holds a different weight with a new regime in place for the Demon Deacons. Since 2010, Virginia Tech has won each of the three games played on Worsham Field, the latest being a 30-13 victory during Homecoming in 2023.
After playing four of its first six games at home, Tech’s schedule will be relatively consistent in the second half of the season with alternating locations. Starting with a road trip to Georgia Tech on Oct. 11, the Hokies will enjoy an open week before welcoming the Cal Golden Bears for a primetime weekday matchup. The official date has yet to be determined; sign up for the Key Plays newsletter and be the first to know when that day is announced. This primetime contest also marks the inaugural matchup between the two programs with Cal as a member of the ACC.
The final four games of the season have a consistent cadence of swapping home and away games. On Nov. 1, Louisville travels to Blacksburg to conclude a stretch on the calendar that includes two open weeks (Oct. 18 & Nov. 8) anchoring two home games. Following their second open week, the Hokies return to Doak Campbell Stadium to face Florida State after making the trip to Tallahassee, Florida, in 2023. This contest will be the third straight meeting played in the Sunshine State since 2018, when No. 20 Virginia Tech beat the No. 19 Seminoles commandingly 24-3.
To close out the year, nationally ranked Miami (Fla.) will come to Southwest Virginia for the regular season home finale. A series that boasts plenty of history saw the rivalry renewed in 2024 after no matchup the year before.
