Student Hokie Club Member, Erica Feuerstein, is a spirited senior who can often be found in the stands of Cassell Coliseum cheering on our Virginia Tech Men’s and Women’s basketball teams. This 2025 graduate shares some of her favorite things about the Hokies!
Q: Major?
EF: Agriculture Science
Q: Where are you from?
EF: Middletown, Virginia
Q: Favorite part about going to VT Athletic events?
EF: My favorite part about going to VT athletic events is knowing that we have such a strong fanbase. Even though we might not have a winning season, we still show up to support. I also love knowing that I'm going to get to be with my friends since we go to all the games together.
Q: Favorite Virginia Tech tradition?
EF: Jumping to Enter Sandman. It’s one of the best college traditions and getting to be a part of that is so rewarding. Standing in lane and knowing that the song is about to start playing gives me chills every time.
Q: Which Virginia Tech team do you follow the most and why?
EF: I follow both football and basketball, but basketball is what I am most interested in. I used to play basketball when I was little so I can understand the sport a lot more compared to others. Plus, it’s a fast-paced high energy environment that is always fun to watch. During my time at Tech, I have gotten to see so many games and even gotten to attend March Madness!
Q: Favorite past or current Hokie athlete?
EF: Football: Coach Beamer because he shaped Virginia Tech football into what it is today. He has left such a legacy for us. He is also so sweet and supportive and all the times I have met him, he loves to get to know students and still feel a part of the community.
Men's Basketball: Hunter Cattoor because he is such a great basketball player and was so fun to interact with. After every game, he would come around for high fives and take pictures with us and if we saw him around town, he would recognize us and stop to talk. I don't think a lot of other players would do that.
Women's Basketball: Liz Kitley because she was such an amazing basketball player who brought so many people into the world of women's sports. What she did to get us into the Final Four was incredible and we were so lucky to have her. She is also so inspiring for her work with her sister and those with disabilities. I am a huge advocate for those individuals, so it warms my heart with how close they are.
Q: What’s your favorite Virginia Tech sports moment or game?
EF: I would say my favorite Virginia Tech sports moment would be how full circle everything has been for me. My very first game as a student we won against UNC, and everyone got to go onto the field. That was when Virginia Tech really started to feel like home. Flash forward to this year when we won against UVA and got to storm the field again. It was such a great feeling to be back where it all started (plus winning against UVA was great too). That full circle moment let me reflect on all the memories I have tied to football games and basketball games. I have met some of my best friends and made some of the best memories of my life and that is all thanks to Virginia Tech sports!
