BLACKSBURG, Va. – Taylor Price’s hat trick lifted Virginia Tech to a 5-1 win over Louisville on Thursday night at Thompson Field.
It is the first career hat trick for Price and the first hat trick of the season for the Hokies. The five goals scored is also the most in a game this season.
Virginia Tech improves to 3-1 in the ACC with the win.
How it Happened
Tech controlled most of the opening frame and found the back of the net for the first time in the 32nd minute. Allie Lewis’ header went off the post and Taylor Price was there to clean up the loose ball and make it a 1-0 contest.
Not even five minutes later, Taylor Lewin sent a beautiful pass up field and connected with Price for her second goal of the half. Through the first 45 minutes, Tech led 2-0 and had outshot the Cardinals 11-2.
Despite Louisville’s goal in the 50th minute to cut the lead, the Hokies responded. Anna Weir delivered with a beautiful shot outside of the 18-yard-box and found the top corner of the net to extend the Hokie lead to 3-1 in the 54th minute.
Natalie Mitchell joined the action just three minutes later as she found the back corner of the net off a shot from inside the 18.
With all the momentum with the Hokies, Price scored for the third time in the 64th minute. Ella Valente’s cross was deflected by the Cardinal goalkeeper and fell just in front of the net for Price to score.
