BLACKSBURG – Tech men's tennis (5-0, 0-0) defeats St. Bonaventure (1-4, 0-1), 7-0, marking best season start since 2008.

The Hokies finish the day with a perfect 14-0 team performance against Davidson and St. Bonaventure, with a mix of strong performances from both veterans and newcomers.

In doubles, the results from today's earlier match were flipped. The first victory of the evening came on court three, where the partnership of Alex Ix and Michael Shepheard earned a 6-1 win over Anargha Ganguly and Norka Sanchez. This time, court one would clinch the team point, as Ryan Fishback and Maxime St. Hilaire triumphed against Archie Graham and Rasmus Egehus. Matt Harper and Alberto Orso held a 5-2 lead on court two, but their match was halted due to the clinch.

Benjamin Pomeranets was the first to get on the board in singles play. The freshman moved to 3-0 after defeating Jean Marrero, 6-1, 6-1, on court four. A veteran presence on court six, Matt Harper finished seconds after Pomeranets, taking his match 6-1, 6-0.

On court 2, Maxime St. Hilaire would not need a third set to clinch the match for Tech, as he won 6-2, 6-2, against Connor Turner. That moves the South Alabama transfer to 5-0 in singles play. No. 72 Ryan Fishback was another Hokie who earned his fifth win in as many singles matches, taking a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Rasmus Egehus.

Another newcomer to Tech, freshman Ilyas Fahim had a strong showing on court five, earning his second victory in the maroon and orange by scores of 6-3, 6-2. The night would wrap up on court three, where Alberto Orso finished with a 6-3, 6-3 win.
