NOTRE DAME, IN --Georgia Amoore, Elizabeth Kitley and Matilda Ekh combined to score 44 of Virginia Tech's 58 total points, but the Hokies fell to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 71-58 on the road Thursday.
The Hokies (23-5, 14-3) had three players score in double figures, led by Amoore, who had 20 points and two steals. Kitley tacked on 12 points, nine rebounds and four blocks and Ekh helped out with 12 points and two steals.
The Virginia Tech offense was strong from deep, pouring in eight threes on 20 attempts. Cayla King hit two treys for the Hokies in the contest.
The Hokies did a great job disrupting Notre Dame shots in the contest, coming away with seven blocks. Kitley's four rejections led the way individually for the Hokies.
How It Happened
Virginia Tech kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 17-16.
Notre Dame kept adding to that lead, building a 32-18 advantage before Virginia Tech went on a 7-0 run, highlighted by a three from Amoore, to narrow its deficit to 32-25. The Fighting Irish responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Hokies trailing 36-28 heading into halftime.
Notre Dame continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 46-35 advantage before Virginia Tech went on a 7-0 run to trim its deficit to 46-42 with 3:20 to go in the third. The Fighting Irish countered and stretched its lead to 53-47 heading into the fourth. Virginia Tech knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 19 total points.
Virginia Tech could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 71-58.
