Tech finishes strong Sunday with 7-0 victory over George Mason

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech (7-1, 0-0) completes a bounce-back weekend with a 7-0 victory against George Mason (2-5, 0-0).  

Tech would make a beneficial change in doubles play. Hugo Maia and Manuel Goncalves would make their first appearance of the season on court three, clinching the doubles point with a 6-1 win over Dustin Ha and Alvaro Pedraza. The first doubles match to finish was the duo of Matt Harper and Alberto Orso, who defeated Jacco Arends and Momin Khan, 6-1. Ryan Fishback and Maxime St. Hilaire would battle on court one, but ultimately they would not end up finishing, with the clinching point occurring while they were at a 3-4 score. 

Goncalves would make his first appearance in singles play for the Hokies this season, defeating Zavan Fahim 6-0, 6-1, on court six. His doubles partner, Hugo Maia, would follow him with a 6-0, 6-2 victory on court two. 

Court five would clinch the victory for Tech, as Alberto Orso downed Hayden Postin, 6-0, 6-4. Michael Shepheard would continue his strong performance from the morning with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Niza Simunyola. 

Freshman Benjamin Pomeranets would have a dominant performance on court four, winning by scores of 6-3, 6-1. In a match where Ryan Fishback would be rested going into singles play, Maxime St. Hilaire stepped on to court one and battled against Monil Lotlikar, winning his match 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) to cap off the night for the maroon and orange.
