Greene notches two extra base hits in Virginia Tech's loss to Grand Canyon

PHOENIX, Ariz --Senior Addy Greene recorded two extra base hits, but the Virginia Tech Hokies fell to the Grand Canyon Antelopes 11-2 Saturday.

Junior Emma Lemley (1-1) started and took the loss in the circle for Virginia Tech (6-2-1).

Greene's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-3 day, and included a double, a home run and an RBI. Freshman Michelle Chatfield compiled a standout effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Freshman Annika Rohs also chipped in for the Hokies, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hokies were trailing 7-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Chatfield put Virginia Tech on the board with a one-out solo home run off junior Meghan Golden.

The Antelopes expanded their lead to 8-1 before the Hokies offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fifth. Virginia Tech picked up a run on Greene's two-out solo home run off of Golden, which brought the score to 8-2 in favor of the Antelopes. The Hokies were unable to get any closer, as Grand Canyon added three runs to their tally on the way to an 11-2 final.

» Grand Canyon was led offensively by senior Kristin Fifield, who went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.
» Senior Hailey Hudson led the Antelopes pitching staff, throwing 1.1 scoreless innings.
