BLACKSBURG – Wide receiver Jaylin Lane will don the No. 25 jersey when the Hokies welcome the No. 19 Clemson Tigers to Lane Stadium this weekend. The contest will be the second time both this season and in Lane’s career that he will honor the legacy of historic Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer. The Hokies and Tigers clash on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 3:30 p.m. ET with live coverage on ESPN.

Lane’s first appearance in No. 25 this season resulted in his most productive game of the season. In the 37-17 victory against Old Dominion, the Clover, South Carolina native tallied seven receptions for a career-high 106 receiving yards and a 25-yard touchdown early in the first quarter. His receptions and yardage led the Tech wide receiver room against the Monarchs, and the redshirt senior’s 79.9 offensive grade from Pro Football Focus (PFF) was second highest on the team.

The 5-foot-10, 196-pound Lane saw his first No. 25 nod after an impressive special teams performance against the Marshall Thundering Herd. In the contest, the redshirt senior broke three tackles en route to a 58-yard punt return touchdown as time expired in the first quarter, giving the Hokies the first score in a 31-14 win. Over eight games this season, the wide receiver is second in receiving yards (353) and first in receptions (29), and his 231 punt return yards are a team high.

The weekly tradition of wearing No. 25 started in 2016 and has continued each season. Each week, a member of the special teams wears the number to recognize how influential Frank Beamer was to Tech football both as a player and a coach. The jersey number was retired in 2002.
