Tech travels down to Chapel Hill for ITA Sectional Championships

Five Hokies are competing for a spot at NCAA Championships

Chapel Hill, N.C. - Five Hokies are in North Carolina competing for a spot at the NCAA Championships later this month. 

DAY 3 - The Hokies finished their weekend in Chapel Hill on Sunday afternoon. 

Cartledge and Uslu fell in straight sets to Virginia’s Ziodato and Navarro, 7(7)-6(1), 6-3.

DAY 2 - Cartledge and Uslu picked up a three-set win in the quarterfinals of the consolation draw on Friday. 

The duo was competing against Elon’s Miray Konar and Helen Sarikulaya. Cartledge and Uslu won the first set 6-3, before falling in the second 3-6. They bounced back in the third set to close out their win, 10-7. 

Gorinsek and Gamretkaia lost to Virginia’s Sara Ziodato and Margaret Navarro in the quarterfinals of the consolation draw. 

Frosch fell in straight sets in the first round of the consolation draw to Columbia’s Sophia Wang. 

DAY 1 - Tech was unable to find a win on the first day of competition, Thursday, Nov. 7. 

Laima Frosch was the sole Virginia Tech athlete to be competing in the singles competition, but she fell to Princeton’s Isabella Chhiv in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. 

Both doubles pairs that made it to the semifinals of the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships are competing in Chapel Hill. 

Charlotte Cartledge and Özlem Uslu played a strong match but ultimately fell in two sets to Duke’s pairing of Emma Jackson and Eleana Yu, 7(7) - 6(4), 6-3. \

Tara Gorinsek and Arina Gamretkaia battled throughout the entirety of their match, going to a third set. The duo picked up a first-set win 6-4 but were unable to find success in the second and third, falling 7(7)-6(4), 10-7.
