Five Takeaways: Virginia Tech softball 2025 schedule

Hokies to host incredible home slate

2025 Schedule Stay Connected

Virginia Tech softball announced its 2025 schedule on Monday and features a bevy of 2024 NCAA Tournament teams and some new opponents on the horizon.

The Hokies will host an incredible home slate for ACC play, featuring the likes of Florida State, Notre Dame, Stanford and Virginia, and will also face some Top 25 squads on the road.

To break down their schedule a little more, let’s take a look at some of the things that stand out.

1. The Final Act
Florida State, which has won eight of the last 10 ACC championships, will make its way to Blacksburg for the final ACC series of the regular season, setting up a pivotal three-game series that has major implications for the ACC regular-season title and seeding for the ACC Tournament.

The Seminoles will come to Tech Softball Park May 2-4, and since head coach Pete D’Amour has taken over, this matchup has been quite the rivalry – filled with memorable, highly-contested games. The two teams have had their fair share of marquee wins in the series, including the Hokies’ 23-9 drubbing of FSU in Tallahassee on April 9, 2022.

You’re going to want to mark this one on your calendars. It will be great softball with a lot on the line.

2. A New Foe
If you follow college softball, you already know Stanford has been a power over the years. This upcoming season, Tech will play host to the Cardinal, marking the first time the two schools have ever faced off.

Stanford is coming off a Women’s College World Series appearance, finishing 2024 with a 50-17 (17-3 Pac-12) record. The Cardinal will make the cross-country trip to Blacksburg March 28-30 in their first ACC matchup against the Hokies.

3. Tourney Time
In years’ past, the Hokies typically travel for all of their tournaments they play in, traveling all over the country to play against the best nationally. But this upcoming campaign, they will host one of their very own in nearby Salem at Moyer Sports Complex.

Tech will play host to James Madison, Penn State and Villanova in Salem – all teams that finished in the top 80 RPI last season. Additionally, Penn State and Villanova made it to the NCAA Tournament in ‘24, including Villanova playing in a regional final.

4. Battle Tested
Under D’Amour, he makes sure his Hokies are facing tough opponents in nonconference play, especially in February. That rings true once again, as Tech heads to two SEC locations for tournaments, including Alabama and LSU. Both teams made the NCAA Tournament a year ago, with Alabama going to the Women’s College World Series and LSU playing in a super regional.

The Hokies will also play a midweek contest at Kentucky, a team that made the NCAA Tournament this past spring, as well. Speaking of midweeks, Tech will face some top 40 RPI squads (Charlotte, Liberty) again this year.

5. California Dreamin’
Cal joined the ACC this summer and the Hokies have the honor of heading out to Berkeley for the Bears’ first softball season in the ACC. Tech will fly out to California for a three-game series April 25-27.

The two programs have only faced one time in their series history, taking place this past spring on Feb. 17 in Phoenix.
