CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Virginia Tech’s Olafur Floki Stephensen was named to the ACC’s All-Freshman Team on Wednesday, per a league release.
The freshman from Garðabaer, Iceland started all 16 games he was available for the Hokies this season and logged 90 minutes in all but one of those games, which he left early due to injury after scoring a goal.
Stephensen helped anchor a back line that recorded seven clean sheets throughout the regular season – the most for Tech since 2016.
The first goal and assist of Stephensen’s career came in Virginia Tech’s 2-1 win over Presbyterian on Sept. 5. Off a corner kick, the rookie headed a ball across goal to assist Trey Gardiner for the first goal of the game. In the 81st minute, the defender latched on to a loose ball in the box and hammered home the game-winning goal.
In October, Stephensen was ranked 22nd on Top Drawer Soccer’s Top 100 Freshmen list.
This marks the fourth consecutive season that the Hokies have placed a freshman on the ACC All-Freshman team.
