BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech defensive lineman Antwaun Powell-Ryland has been named a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award for the Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year, the Maxwell Football Club National Selection Committee announced Tuesday.

Powell-Ryland (6-3, 252) is currently the NCAA FBS co-leader in sacks with 13 on the season. His 14.5 TFLs are the most in the ACC and are tied for fifth nationally. APR has registered three fumble recoveries to lead the conference, tying for second most in the FBS.

The Portsmouth, Virginia product has recorded 37 tackles, two forced fumbles and eight quarterback hurries through 10 games this season.

The winner of the 30th Chuck Bednarik Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show which will be broadcast live on ESPN on Thursday, Dec. 12.
