Hokies earn No. 5 seed in ACC Women’s Championship

Tech faces fourth-seeded North Carolina in the first round on Sunday

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech begins postseason play in the ACC Women’s Championship for the first time since 2020 as the No. 5 seed.

The Hokies (11-4-3, 6-2-2) will face fourth-seeded North Carolina (14-4-0, 7-3-0) in the first round Sunday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The game will be televised on ACC Network. Tickets will be available Friday and can be found here.

Finishing the conference slate at 6-2-2, the Hokies earned 20 points – the most since 2013 – to finish fifth in the ACC standings. 

Look back at some of the best moments from Hokie women’s soccer this season that earned the squad the No. 5 seed in the ACC Tournament.

Virginia Tech 2, Clemson 1
The Hokies began ACC play with a 2-1 win at Clemson on Sept. 12. Anna Weir netted the first goal of conference play and Taylor Lewin scored her first collegiate goal, as well as her first game-winning goal, to defeat the Tigers. 

It was the first win over Clemson since 2014.

Virginia Tech 1, Syracuse 0
Allie George recorded her second game-winning goal of the season in Tech’s 1-0 shutout victory over Syracuse (Sept. 15). It was the Hokies’ first shutout in ACC play and the first ACC win of the year at Thompson Field.

With a combined 13 saves and one goal allowed in the wins over Clemson and Syracuse, Lauren Hargrove was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week.

Virginia Tech 5, Louisville 1
Tech’s offense came to life with a season-high five goals in its 5-1 win over Louisville on Sept. 26. Taylor Price recorded the 12th hat trick in Hokie history as she recorded her first career three-goal game. Natalie Mitchell and Anna Weir also found the back of the net. 

It was the most goals scored in an ACC game for Tech since the 2021 season.

Virginia Tech 3, No. 6 Florida State 2
Trailing 2-0 in the 79th minute, the Hokies scored three goals in eight minutes to claim the 3-2 victory. Sarah Rosenbaum scored first and Kylie Marschall tied the match before Taylor Price delivered the game winner in the 87th minute. 

It was the first win in program history over the Seminoles and the first Top 10 win since 2022. A season-high 1,056 fans witnessed the comeback victory at Thompson Field.

No. 21 Virginia Tech 1, SMU 0
The Hokies continued momentum at Thompson with a 1-0 win over SMU on Sept. 10. Taylor Price recorded her second straight game-winning goal with her shot in the 65th minute for the Hokies’ fourth ACC win at home.

No. 19 Virginia Tech 2, No. 7 Notre Dame 0
The Hokies earned their first Top 10 road win since 2012 with a 2-0 shutout victory at No. 7 Notre Dame. Sarah Rosenbaum and Lauren Gogal scored a goal apiece in the victory. Gogal became the 13th goal scorer for Tech this season.

Lauren Hargrove recorded six saves in Tech’s 10th shutout of the season to earn her second ACC Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season.
