BLACKSBURG – In a wide receiver room that earns much acclaim for its upperclassmen, true sophomore Ayden Greene has been a spark for the Tech offense. Over eight games this season, Greene has shown up for the Hokies in high-intensity situations and continues to be an asset for offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen. Greene and the Hokies will see the field next when they visit Syracuse on Nov. 3 at noon ET for a chance at securing bowl game eligibility.

As a true freshman in 2023, Greene saw action on the gridiron, albeit in a limited role. Through 12 games, the receiver had five receptions for 56 yards, including a then-season-best 24 yards against Rutgers. The 6-foot-2 wide receiver found most of his action in a committee approach throughout the season.

Greene’s playmaking ability has been on display in big ways for Hokie fans this season. The Knoxville, Tennessee native’s 136 total yards are well over double his totals from last season, and his 13.9 yards per catch ranks third on the team. Greene is one of eight players to catch a touchdown this season, his 16-yard score against Miami being the first of his collegiate career. The true sophomore’s performance at Hard Rock Stadium earned him a 70.3 offensive rating on Pro Football Focus (PFF).

There are many reasons why Greene has found success this season, but much of his work can be connected to his speed. Offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen has utilized the sophomore’s speed in various schemes this season that highlight both his receiving and rushing abilities. Opposing teams were put on notice when Greene showcased his rushing ability with a 25-yard sprint against Boston College that subsequently led to a Bhayshul Tuten touchdown. After joining the illustrious 20-mile-per-hour club in January, it’s no surprise that the true sophomore has been flying across Worsham Field on gamedays.

Greene and the Hokies will travel to New York for a matchup against the Orange. With a win, the Hokies could clinch bowl game eligibility for the second straight year and make a bowl game in back-to-back years for the first time since 2018-19.
