BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech is proud to announce men's basketball head coach Mike Young has been selected as an inductee into the Wofford Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2024. The five-member class was revealed by Wofford Monday afternoon.
In addition to Young, McLeod Dean '19 (women's track and field), Cameron Jackson '19 (men's basketball), Fletcher Magee '19 (men's basketball) and Hayley Younginer '19 (women's soccer) will also be inducted. This honor celebrates Young’s remarkable impact at Wofford, where he spent 30 years coaching, including 17 seasons as head coach of the Terriers.
Young's legacy at Wofford is unparalleled. Under his leadership, Wofford’s men’s basketball program achieved unprecedented success, highlighted by five NCAA Tournament appearances and five Southern Conference tournament championships. He was named Southern Conference Coach of the Year four times (2010, 2014, 2015 and 2019) and guided the Terriers to their first NCAA Tournament win in program history during the 2018-2019 season. His final season at Wofford culminated in a historic 30-win campaign, propelling him to national recognition as one of college basketball's top coaches.
Since joining Virginia Tech in 2019, Young has continued to demonstrate his exceptional coaching abilities, leading the Hokies to their first ACC championship in program history in 2022 and establishing a culture of success both on and off the court. His accomplishments have garnered respect across college basketball, and this selection honors his deep-rooted contributions to Wofford's athletic legacy.
Young will be formally inducted in a ceremony held by Wofford on Feb. 15, however, the Radford, Va., native will be unable to attend since that will be the same day as Tech's Commonwealth Clash with Virginia at 2 p.m. inside Cassell Coliseum.
