SOUTH BEND, IND. – No. 19 Virginia Tech clinched a berth in the ACC Tournament with a 2-0 road win at No. 7 Notre Dame on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

The Hokies earned their second Top 10 win of the season with their defeat over the Fighting Irish. With the victory, Tech has 20 points – good for third in the ACC standings with one match remaining. It is the most points the Hokies have earned in the ACC since 2013.

Sarah Rosenbaum and Lauren Gogal each scored in the win.

How it Happened
Tech opened the first 10 minutes tallying three shots, but Notre Dame began to control possession. The Hokies’ defense was all over the Fighting Irish and kept them off the board despite having eight shots in the first 45.

Just nine seconds into the second half, Sarah Rosenbaum picked up a deflected touch and delivered a rocket from just inside the 18-yard-box to the top right corner to give the Hokies the 1-0 lead.

Tech’s defense never let up and maintained its 1-0 lead until the 77th minute. A deflected shot by Anna Weir landed right in front of Lauren Gogal who launched it into the net to extend the Hokie advantage.

Despite the Fighting Irish continuing to pressure, Tech’s defense held strong for its 10th shutout of the season.
