BLACKSBURG – Heading into the second half of Virginia Tech’s Homecoming game, the Hokies lead Georgia Tech 14-6, with Lane Stadium rocking as the Maroon Effect crowd fuels the intensity of this exciting matchup.
After a scoreless first quarter where both defenses held firm, tight end Benji Gosnell broke the deadlock with a 20-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Kyron Drones. It was Gosnell’s second touchdown of the season and third of his career, giving the Hokies early momentum. The scoring drive featured key moments, including a 14-yard grab by Ayden Greene and a 31-yard career-high catch from Gosnell to set up the score.
The Hokies added to their lead with a creative twist, as wide receiver Jaylin Lane connected with Drones on a 6-yard touchdown pass, marking Lane’s involvement in four types of touchdowns this season—passing, rushing, receiving, and returning. Lane joins rare company, becoming just the third Hokie to achieve this feat since 1987.
Running back Bhayshul Tuten has also been a standout, racking up 63 rushing yards and a nine-yard reception. The Paulsboro, New Jersey native showcased his explosiveness with a 41-yard run, hinting at more big plays to come in the second half.
On the defensive side, Virginia Tech has stifled Georgia Tech’s offense, holding the Yellow Jackets to just two field goals. Late in the first quarter, defensive lineman Wilfried Pene made a critical sack on quarterback Zach Pyron for a five-yard loss and added a pass breakup to disrupt Georgia Tech’s rhythm.
Linebacker Caleb Woodson has been active with four tackles and a quarterback hurry, while STAR Keonta Jenkins continues to make an impact with four tackles, including a tackle for loss that forced the Yellow Jackets back two yards. The Hokies’ defense has set the tone early, positioning them for success as the second half begins.
Georgia Tech will open the third quarter with possession.
