Max Hafer (‘24) is an engineer based in Baltimore, Maryland. At Virginia Tech, he majored in Construction Engineering and Management. He enjoys skiing, hanging out with his family and friends, and cheering on the Hokies. He is an avid Hokie fan and can be found at many Tech games, both in Blacksburg and on the road.

Why do you think it is important to give back to Virginia Tech Athletics?

MH: Athletics at Virginia Tech improved my student experience. I could not imagine Virginia Tech without sports. Being able to experience the atmosphere at Lane Stadium was a huge draw to Virginia Tech for me. I want to try and give back to Virginia Tech Athletics for the awesome memories I had and to also be able to support the student-athletes.

Why did you decide to attend Virginia Tech?

MH: I chose Virginia Tech because of the student experience. I remember watching Miami play at Lane Stadium in 2011 and the ESPN commentator said, “These people are losing their minds” as Enter Sandman was blaring for the final seconds of the game, and that moment sold me on Virginia Tech.

How has Virginia Tech Athletics impacted you?

MH: Virginia Tech Athletics impacted my whole Virginia Tech experience. Without athletics, Virginia Tech would not have been nearly as great as it was. Most of my best Virginia Tech memories happened in Lane Stadium and Cassell Coliseum. From the six overtime game vs North Carolina in football, to when we stormed the court when the Hokies defeated UVA in basketball, it has been awesome.

What is your favorite Virginia Tech sports memory?

MH: My favorite memory so far has been convincing my friend to drive to my house last minute to see Virginia Tech play Duke in Brooklyn or traveling from Blacksburg to Dallas to see the Final Four Women’s Basketball game.

How would you encourage other Virginia Tech Recent Graduates to give?

MH: The athletic programs at Virginia Tech add to the student experience and giving back is one way to thank Virginia Tech for a great undergrad experience. The Recent Grad Program offers great value and a way to experience Virginia Tech Athletics for a good price.
