Hokies continue in-conference play in exciting Friday matchup

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech Volleyball will welcome North Carolina to Cassell Coliseum for a contest this Friday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. ET. The Hokies, who return to Blacksburg after a two-match road stint against No. 20 Georgia Tech and Clemson, will look to capitalize in what is sure to be a thrilling matchup. With exciting giveaways and special promotions for fans in attendance, fans won’t want to miss this game. Here are five reasons to attend volleyball in Cassell Coliseum this Friday evening.  

  1. Key Matchup – When the Tar Heels visit Blacksburg on Friday, the contest will be the 42nd matchup between the two programs. Behind outside hitter Belle Patrick and libero Leandra Mangual Duran, the Hokies will look to capitalize against a UNC team that has played three of their last four games on the road. 
  2. Dig Pink Night – Sponsored by Carillion Clinic, Friday’s match against North Carolina will be the first of two Dig Pink Nights this season, the second being against Duke on Oct. 20. Athletes will be donning pink gear to show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness month. Join volleyball for an evening of good fun and an even better cause by wearing pink to support those who are affected by breast cancer.

  3. Giveaway – In celebration of Dig Pink Night, early-arriving fans will receive a Pink Heart VT keychain while supplies last to show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to stand up against breast cancer!
  4. In-Conference Battle – Friday’s matchup will be the Hokies’ seventh of twenty consecutive ACC matchups to close out the volleyball season. Virginia Tech enters the game standing at 7-9 and looks to continue its momentum after winning against conference foe Clemson. 
  5. Players of the Match – Fans in attendance should keep a keen eye on several select players in the matchup against North Carolina. Junior middle blocker Jordan Hallman has had three or more blocks in 14 of 16 matches this season and has helped the Hokies to record over 20 blocks in four matches. At the libero position, Leandra Mangual Duran reached 1,000 career digs against Miami and will look to continue to build her season total of 180 digs against North Carolina. Duran has also achieved a perfect serve receive record in four straight games, totaling 49 perfect receptions. The Rio Grande, Puerto Rico native has recorded 10 matches with a perfect record this season. Belle Patrick arrived in Blacksburg and immediately made an impact, as the freshman currently leads the team in kills and points through sixteen games. Patrick has tallied double-digit kills in eight of 16 matches this fall. Fans in attendance will have lots to cheer for when the Hokies take the hardwood Friday.
