BLACKSBURG - Jared Davis is a second baseman with Virginia Tech Baseball. He was born and raised in the heart of Florida. His family still lives in Orlando and is preparing for Hurricane Milton.

“They are just taking it as another day,” Jared said. “God has a plan for them.”

Being more inland, Orlando is expected to see several inches of rain and hurricane-force winds Thursday morning.

“It looks like it is going to be a very dangerous hurricane,” Dominique Davis, Jared’s father said, “one of the most dangerous ones we have ever seen.”

Dominique says they’ve seen these storms before.

“The wind sounds like a train coming,” Dominique said, “it is uncontrollable wind that is very dangerous.”

That wind could leave major damage throughout their hometown.

“Trees would be everywhere, powerlines would be down, buildings would be destroyed,” Dominique said. “Some people’s homes would be flattened; I’m talking about like nothing there, I mean blocks would be taken out. The wind, it’s not like it is a 75+ mph wind gust, it is a continuing flow of that 75+ mph wind."

The biggest worry for the Davis family would be wind and flooding, which could leave them without power, and Jared trying to find ways to get ahold of his loved ones.

“I’ll definitely keep you updated on what’s going on if the towers are still working,” Dominique said to Jared. “The cell phone towers can go down or the powerlines can go out, but I will try and reach out to you some kind of way.”

Through all of this, Jared says his faith is giving him and his family hope through this storm.

To prepare, his family has stocked up on foods that don’t need power to make.

Other than that, Jared says his family will most likely be playing board games waiting for it to pass.
