Meet the New Hokies: Jane Brewer

As the Hokies approach the 2024 season, get to know the newest faces of Virginia Tech lacrosse.

JANE BREWER
Midfield
Sykesville, Maryland
Century High School

Why did you choose to attend Virginia Tech? Everything felt right about Virginia Tech. The coaches, and the facilities both athletically and academically were all great, along with the team culture. When I went to practice on my visit, I could tell how much the team cared and genuinely wanted to be there, and I knew I wanted to be a part of a team like that.

Did you always know you wanted to play D1 lacrosse? I knew I wanted to play at about the beginning of my sophomore year but had no idea what level I could be at. When September 1st hit though and I started getting calls from schools I never would've imagined, the reality kind of sunk in that this could really happen for me.

What are you looking forward to the most about the spring season? Definitely gamedays. I have never experienced them at this level, and the team always talks about how amazing they are so I am definitely excited to get that experience.

Is there an opponent you're most excited to face? Duke and UVA are both huge rivals in the ACC. But also, some of the non-conference games, like the game against JMU always has a good atmosphere I've been told since our schools are so close to each other.

How would you describe your playing style? I am a very gritty player. I always leave it all out there and just always try to do my best for the team, no matter what we are doing or wherever we are.

What would you say is your biggest asset to the team? I would say my personality is a good contribution to the team culture. I try to be lighthearted and fun and make everyone feel good. If they're not having a good day, I try to cheer them up and things like that. I also like to think I'm easy to talk to and I just try to keep a good mood at all times.

Have you had any struggles adjusting to being a college athlete? Just balancing school, with the online classes, in person classes and then going through preseason has been an adjustment.

Who has helped you the most in your college adjustment? My parents. They're the reason everything has happened for me, and why I am where I am today. I'm very grateful for them.

What is one fun fact about you? During the COVID lockdowns I ended up teaching myself harmonica.

Is there anything else you would like VT fans to know about you? Just how grateful I am to be here and happy I am to be with the team.
