BLACKSBURG – Lane Stadium is charged with energy as the Hokies make their home debut, with maroon and orange filling the stands. Notably, legendary head coach Frank Beamer and the 1999 national runner-up team are in attendance. In a closely contested matchup, Virginia Tech holds a 10-7 lead at halftime, setting up a compelling second half against Marshall.

The first score of the game came late in the first quarter when wide receiver Jaylin Lane broke free for a 58-yard punt return touchdown, marking the second return touchdown of his career. Lane has also contributed with two receptions for nine yards. Running back Bhayshul Tuten has been instrumental, leading the offense with 77 rushing yards, including key 19 and 25-yard runs.

The Hokies’ special teams extended the lead with a 42-yard field goal by kicker John Love.

On defense, "Sacksburg" is asserting its dominance. Safety Mose Philips III recorded a two-yard sack on Marshall quarterback Stone Earle in the first quarter and leads the team with three tackles and a pass breakup. Defensive lineman Keyshawn Burgos got to the quarterback with a handful of teammates for a second sack, resulting in a seven-yard loss. Cornerbacks Mansoor Delane and Dante Lovett, along with linebackers Keli Lawson and Kaleb Spencer, each contributed a pass breakup, helping to keep Marshall to only one score in the first half.

Safety Jaylen Jones has distinguished himself with two pass breakups and a tackle. Star cornerback Dorian Strong has made his presence felt with two tackles and a forced fumble, while defensive end Antwaun Powell-Ryland, this week’s defensive spotlight, notched a quarterback hurry alongside defensive lineman Josh Fuga. The Hokies' defense has effectively neutralized Earle, limiting him to 39 yards on 4-of-14 passing.

Marshall will receive the ball to start the second half.
